In the service of humanity: SJAI volunteers celebrate their work on St John’s Day

Every year on 24th June, St John’s Day, members of St John Ambulance Ireland remember the work that they and their colleagues do around the world as part of the St John Ambulance movement.

Life-saving techniques taught

Throughout the year, all of our instructors and administrators give much time to share the knowledge of pre-hospital care and safety both internally to our members and to the general public on external courses. Teaching people life-saving techniques is a major part of our work. Our volunteers and staff do this with enthusiasm.

Mental health matters today and always

Today we celebrate World Mental Health Day with the goal of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

But more than a goal it is a hope. A hope that all our members, friends and families remember that they are not alone. This year has been particularly hard and some of us might be struggling, we all have our ups and downs and there is nothing wrong in asking for help. Limits have been pushed for all of us, yet we remain giving our best every day, challenges will remain,… Continue reading

Safety of health workers impacts the safety of patients: St John Ambulance supports World Patient Safety Day

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the huge challenges health workers are currently facing globally. Working in stressful environments exacerbates safety risks for health workers, including being infected and contributing to outbreaks in the health care facility, having limited access or adherence to personal protective equipment and other infection prevention and control measures, and inducing errors which can potentially harm patients and health workers. In many countries, health workers are facing increased risks of infections, violence, accidents, stigma, illness and death.

SJAI ensures that all who are trained by us in First Aid are shown how to work in the best… Continue reading

St John Ambulance Cadets make positive impact on their community

Today is United Nations International Youth Day which this year is celebrating youth engagement for global action.

We always hear how cadets are the future of St John Ambulance, but they are far more than that. They are a vital part of our pre-hospital family, trained and ready to give their time and skills.

As we celebrate the positive impact young people have on our society, we send our appreciation and thanks to all our Cadets across the country.

St John Ambulance training goes contactless

Conscious of how nervous some of our first aid and fire warden course attendees might feel we set about changing the layout of our venue.

We now provide training where the attendee has their own pod, like going to school in September will be. In each pod you have your own mannequin to do bandaging and your own manikins for practicing CPR. These are cleaned by a team wearing PPE. After your manikin is cleaned, it is put into a 100% degradable bag which you open on the day of your course.

Each attendee receives a student pack which contains… Continue reading
