Our volunteers gathered early on Sunday 12 June 2016 to travel to the Phoenix Park to join with volunteers from other divisions in providing First Aid cover to the SSE Airtricity Irish Runner 5 mile race.

It was not just a very early start but a very wet one. Thankfully the rain stopped and we had a lovely dry few hours.

Kenyan Peter Somba wins men’s race

The race was won by Kenyan Peter Somba (Dunboyne) with a time of 23:58, one second ahead of Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrocks. The podium was completed when Michael Harty of East Cork AC finished with a time of 24:11.

Belfast’s Gladys Ganiel wins women’s race

In the women’s race, Gladys Ganiel (Belfast Harriers) finished first in 28:36, Catherine McKiernan came in second, and Catherina Mullen of Shercock AC third.
