Mr Allan Smith, New CEO for St John Canada

In March 2015, St John Ambulance Canada announced the appointment of Allan Smith as CEO. Mr Smith having previously served as President/CEO and Board Director of Saxon Financial; and as a senior executive MD Management, a subsidiary of the Canadian Medical Association brings an extensive amount of experience with over 30 years of relevant leadership and management to his new role, this was echoed by Robert White, St John Ambulance Chancellor who welcomed Allan’s “experience and leadership to the St. John Ambulance family,”

St John member saves uncle’s life

“Being a member of St John Ambulance means learning new skills which could leave a lasting impact on someone’s life.”

These are Darragh Lawlor’s words; the Pavilions Shopping Centre employee who recently saved his uncle’s life. Darragh, 24, volunteers with St John Ambulance Swords as well as working in the shopping centre as a security guard and first aider.

Two weeks ago, Darragh was called to assist a man in a shop on the main street in Swords. Darragh’s colleague witnessed a customer collapse and go into cardiac arrest. CPR was started immediately.

Having staff trained in First Aid will help to reduce the effects and seriousness of any accidents or injuries that occur in the workplace, and will also provide staff with a peace of mind. First aid provision is a legal requirement for employers.

Occupational First Aid (FETAC Level 5) Course runs over three full days during business hours at our premises in Dublin, Cork, and at other locations around the country. We can also teach in-house if it is more suitable for employees and employers.
