On this one day course, you will learn to recognise and treat the most common illnesses and injuries suffered by infants and toddlers; everything from life threatening conditions to bumps and scrapes.
A recent survey in Mother and Baby Magazine found that 83% of parents would not remember what to do in an emergency. Even a simple knowledge of basic first aid can not only save lives, but it can also prevent long term suffering and disability.
Here at St. John Ambulance, we believe First aid is an essential parenting skill. Thus, we have created this 1 day course that will ensure the "grown ups" know exactly what to do in the case of an emergency. This course is open to everyone responsible for infants and toddlers, but is especially aimed at parents or expectant parents.
Who is this course for?
This course is open to everyone who is responsible for infants and toddlers, but is especially aimed at parents or expectant parents who want to learn first aid skills. Babysitters, grandparents, aunts and uncles are all welcome to attend as well though!
What you will learn?
- Manage an incident
- Manage an unconcious infant or toddler
- Treat head injuries and febrile convulsions
- Treat shock, hypothermia and drowning

- Resuscitate an infant or toddler
- Treat choking, poisoning, burns or scalds
- Recognise asthma, croup, meningitis, and provide appropriate treatment

 How is the course assessed?
There's no formal assessment - our highly experienced St John instructors will make sure you know what you’re doing by giving you plenty of advice and practice until you feel happy and confident.
Where is this course on?
This course will take place at our National Headquarters at 29 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4 from 9am to 5pm. Our location is serviced by Dublin Bus, nearest Luas stop is Charlemont or about a 10 minute walk from Dart. We also have limited parking available.
How much is the course?
This course is €55.
