Here at St. John Ambulance, we are committed to the simple vision that everyone should have access to first aid, no matter where they are or what they are doing at the onset of injury and illness.
A recent survey in Mother and Baby Magazine found that 83% of parents would not remember what to do in an emergency. Even a simple knowledge of basic first aid can not only save lives, but it can also prevent long term suffering and disability.
We will teach you how to recognise and treat some of the most common accidents and injuries suffered by infants and children, everything from bumps and scrapes to life threatening conditions, offering peace of mind to anyone who has responsibility for young children. Read more...

This year the St. John Ambulance was chosen as one of the main First Aid providers for the Electric Picnic Music Festival in Stradbally, Co. Laois. Members of the St. John Ambulance provided First Aid cover to concert goers inside the grounds with our colleagues from the Order of Malta providing cover in the campsites.
The Stradbally festival, which has often been referred to as Ireland’s version of Glastonbury, has taken place since 2004 and has attracted some world class music artists over the years. The St. John Ambulance has been the premier First Aid provider at both large and small events in Ireland since its formation and has provided medical cover at both indoor and outdoor concerts for many years.
St. John Ambulance Operation’s Officer John McGrath co-ordinated First Aid cover for the event which attracted up to approximately 35,000 concerts goers a day. Read more...

Over forty unpaid volunteers from St. John Ambulance were deployed in and around College Green in the centre of Dublin City for President Obama’s historic visit. A crowd of in excess of 50,000 people gathered to hear the address by the 44th President of the United States of America.
We worked under the guidance of the Health Service Executive (HSE) and were joined by members from our sister organisations, the Order of Malta, the Irish Red Cross, and the Civil Defence. All organisations operated under the control of a Joint Voluntary Command Centre (JVCC), set-up specifically for this event. This allowed our pooled resources to operate seamlessly, ensuring an appropriate and timely response to all reported medical emergencies. Read more President Obama's Visit...

Members of St. John Ambulance, Dundrum Division, provided first aid and ambulance cover at Rás UCD on the 16th of April. This fundraising event took the form of a five kilometre road race around the campus of University College Dublin. It is the second such event to be held in aid of University College Dublin Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO).
UCDVO is a charitable organisation offering students, staff and alumni of University College Dublin the opportunity to contribute their time, energy and skills to development projects overseas. St. John Ambulance, Dundrum Division, was particularly delighted to be able to cover this duty as one of our volunteers, David Monks, travelled to both Haiti and India with the UCDVO. David runs the Cadet Division in Dundrum. Read more about Rás UCD and the UCDVO...

St. John Ambulance is proudly supporting Nurses Day on May 12th. Every year on this day the International Council of Nursing (ICN), among many other nursing organisations across the world, celebrate International Nurses Day to acknowledge the remarkable work carried out by nurses across the globe.
The Brigade recognises the contribution its nurses have made to the organisation and patient care since its establishment in 1903. In the early years of the Brigade nurses, both professional and auxiliary, cared for patients at home and abroad during the Great War. These nurses sometimes worked in the most horrific conditions nursing wounded soldiers on board hospital trains, ships and in makeshift hospitals. Read more about St. John and Nurses Day...

At 12:51pm on the 22nd of February 2011, a normal Tuesday afternoon in Christchurch was shattered by a massive earthquake. In the aftermath, members of St. John Ambulance, New Zealand were faced not only with co-ordinating the largest emergency medical response in their history, but doing so with three of six operational ambulance bases damaged beyond use.
Without ambulance stations, staff were forced to operate the fleet of forty ambulances from city car parks and largely rely on the community to provide food, water and hygiene facilities for ambulance crews.
Christchurch’s main ambulance station was completely destroyed. This was actually a new facility put into operation only months ago to replace an original station. Read more about St. John response in New Zealand...
